We believe that a child's day must include personal attention, guidance and developmentally appropriate activities, including reading, math, science, art, music, computers, blocks, fine motor activities, puzzles, creative play & movement, and problem-solving challenges. It is our goal to nurture and promote a student’s academic and social potential with an emphasis on learning the Spanish language. In our dual immersion program, students are educated daily in both Spanish and English. Our enriched program of lively learning appeals to those who want significantly more than traditional child care or preschool.
PHILOSOPHY
Children learn a second language in the same way they learn their native language, naturally and through everyday conversation and experiences. This natural process of learning develops a more meaningful language comprehension for the child and helps them to develop listening comprehension, spontaneous verbal expression, and enhanced reading and writing skills. The overall goal of our early childhood curriculum is to encourage children to become enthusiastic learners. Daily lessons motivate children to be active and creative explorers who are self-confident, inquisitive learners that welcome independence in regard to learning new things.
LEARNING
Children’s Cultural Academy offers a truly total learning experience. Our aim is to help parents prepare their children for living and growing in a global society – one in which communicating in a second language will provide a major advantage in an increasingly multi-lingual and multi-cultural environment. We concentrate on helping kids learn Spanish during the ideal time in their lives to acquire alternate language skills. The daily class routine is comprised of a combination of teacher-lead, child-lead, and group activities. Activities include circle time, music and movement, learning centers, individual instruction, reading, and outdoor playtime. We believe children learn best when they stay active and engaged, therefore children rotate to different rooms and activities within the school throughout the day so they are not stifled or bored by staying in the same area.
CURRICULUM
Material is presented through a thematic approach in which a theme is chosen every two weeks. Themes provide variety to the curriculum and a context to imbed language and practice skills.
The morning curriculum, from the time of arrival to rest time, is presented in Spanish. Children are immersed in the Spanish language during this entire time period. The teacher speaks in Spanish while making use of many visual aids and a great deal of body language and encourages the students to join-in by mimicking the new words and sounds. Although children may use English at any time, they are encouraged to use Spanish vocabulary and expressions with which they are comfortable. The Spanish language environment surrounding our activities, enables your child to practice early childhood educational concepts while simultaneously learning Spanish. The curriculum also incorporates group activities to reinforce the fun of Spanish language in song, movement and games.
The afternoon curriculum, beginning after rest time and continuing until dismissal, is presented in English. During this time period, children speak only English and are presented much of the same weekly themed curriculum, but in English. The afternoon session is designed to serve as a reinforcement and review of the basic preschool skills that were presented in the morning session. Along with opportunities to learn through play and social interaction, children are also provided with the skills that will allow them to be elementary school ready.
Children’s Cultural Academy offers opportunities for growth in all major developmental fields.
Our unique program focuses on the following skills:
• Classifying, sequencing, sorting, manipulating and arranging.• Letter knowledge and recognition.• Pre-math skills such as number recognition, estimating and counting.• Handwriting and tracing exercises• Fine motor skills and self expression.• Social developmental skills such as manners, respect, sharing and caring.
